Rachel Turner, artistic director 

Rachel Turner is originally from Chicago, IL where she trained at Hyde Park School of Dance and as part of the Ballet Chicago Studio Company, where she learned and performed the works of George Balanchine. She has trained at summer programs with American Ballet Theater, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, and Kansas City Ballet. She graduated from Columbia University in 2013 with a B.A. in Dance. She is currently a dancer with Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble and Connect the Dots Dance Company and is a guest dancer with DancEthos. She has previously danced with ArasDance, Maverick Lemons Dance Project, and Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Company. She has presented her own choreography at Dance Exchange, The Jack Guidone Theater, The Clarice at UMD, and Dance Place, and she taught dance at St. Andrew's Episcopal School and Metropolitan Ballet Theater and Academy. Rachel recently moved to Los Angeles, CA where she teaches dance at Campbell Hall Episcopal, and she is glad to have the company continue under direction of two of her founding dancers.

 

 

Mariana C. Barros, co-director and founding dancer (DC)

Mariana C. Barros is originally from Northeast Pennsylvania, and central Florida. She began her dance training in Ballroom Dance under Mary Brand’s School of Dance in Pennsylvania, then began concentrated studies in Musical Theater and Dance Performance as part of the Communication & Arts in Performance Academy (CAPA) program in central Florida. She then went on to study & graduated from the The Fairfax Academy-college preparatory program where she trained under Andrea Heininge in Dance and Michael Replogle in the Professional Actors’ Studio. She graduated with a degree in Music Performance from northern Virginia. She is currently dancing with Errant Movement and Aras Dance in Washington, DC.

Emilia Kawashima, co-director and founding dancer (DC)

Emilia Kawashima, a Florida native, began her dance studies at the age of five. Her classical ballet, jazz and modern training began at the University Center for the Performing Arts where she has trained with Barbara Sloan, Damaris Ferrer, and Lu Welters to name a few. Emilia was a company member with Jubilee Dance Theatre, under the artistic directions of Lu Welters, from 2007-2009 and has performed in various well renown South Florida venues.  She received her BS and MS degrees from Florida Atlantic University in ocean engineering alongside training in modern dance with Clarence Brooks and Diana Mighdoll Hoffmaster. From 2010-2012 she was a member of the Movement Project under the artistic direction of Diana Mighdoll Hoffmaster. Now Emilia resides in DC and is part of the local dance community by dancing with several companies such as DancEthos, ArasDance, and Errant Movement. 

Blair Galiber   (since December 2017) (DC)

 

Johanna (Joie) Jan   (since October 2017) (DC)

Johanna is originally from Westchester, NY where she trained at Central Park Dance in Scarsdale, NY. She graduated from the University of Delaware with a minor in Dance in 2016, studying modern, jazz, ballet, and hip hop from the department director Kimberly Schroeder. She performed in the Dance Minor Concert in 2015 and 2016 as well as choreographed for it in 2016. She also danced with the Delaware Repertory Dance Company, located in Newark, DE, from 2012 - 2016 and choreographed for them from 2013 - 2015. Joie is currently dancing with DancEthos and Errant Movement and trains at the Joy of Motion Dance Centers and the Dance Loft on 14th in the DC area. She is also a competitive figure skater, in freestyle and ice dance, and trains with coaches at the University of Delaware's High Performance Figure Skating Center in Newark, DE. Along with a minor in Dance, Joie also has an honors BS in Computer Science and Math and is currently working on her masters in Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. She also lives in Laurel, MD and works as a software engineer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. She might be an engineer by day, but her passion is for the arts.

Stephanie Lamoreau   (since September 2018) (DC)

Stephanie was born and raised in Lima, Ohio, moving to the DC metropolitan area in the fall of 2017. In her hometown, she grew up dancing at The Dancer By Gina, where she completed 16 years of dance under the direction and ownership of Gina Wiley. Deciding to pursue her passion for dance, Stephanie continued her education at Ohio University, where she received her BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography in the Spring of 2017. During her time at OU, she studied Modern, Ballet, Composition, Jazz, and African techniques, as well as various history and lecture courses, including Laban Movement Analysis, Pedagogy, Dance Production, and Kinesiology. She trained and grew in knowledge under the teachings of Travis Gatling, Tresa Randall, Nathan Andary, Ani Javian, Mickie Geller, John Bohuslawsky, and Gladys Bailin-Stern, as well as many other professors within the Division of Dance. As a student, Stephanie had performed in numerous student choreographed works, faculty choreographed works, as well as Guest Artists’ works including, MacArthur Fellow, Kyle Abraham, and Leslie Dworkin. Having an education with an emphasis on choreography, she has choreographed and premiered four group works and one solo work in various concerts. Alongside her passion for dance, Stephanie has a love for working with individuals with special needs and hopes to merge these two career paths in the future. The 2018-2019 season will be Stephanie’s first season with Errant Movement and she is so excited and beyond grateful to be dancing with the company.

Kaya Simonson  (since December 2015) (DC)

Kaya Simonson is native to Washington, DC, where she trained at The Musical Theater Center, DC Dance Collective, and Joy of Motion Dance Center throughout high school. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 2015 with a minor in Dance, studying various modern techniques and other genres under the direction of Kimberly Schroeder and had the pleasure of running and choreographing for the Delaware Repertory Dance Company in Newark, DE. She has trained at programs with Joy of Motion Dance Center, DC Dance Collective, and Adrian Bolton and Katherine Smith Dance Center, as well as with the American College Dance Association at Boston University and Towson University. Currently, Kaya dances with Errant Movement in Washington, DC and teaches dance at the Jewish Community Center Greater Washington in Rockville, MD.

Julia Tomanovich   (since February 2016)​ (DC)

Julia Tomanovich grew up studying ballet in Newark, Delaware. Her eyes were opened to the wide world of modern, post-modern, contemporary, jazz, theatre, and other dance forms when she majored in Dance and Cultural Anthropology at the University at Buffalo. Julia moved to D.C. one year ago to pursue two Masters degrees and a teaching career in Southeast, D.C. This is her first show with Errant Movement, and she feels very lucky to be a part of the beautiful work that they do. In her free time, one can usually find Julia outside somewhere, eating and laughing with friends.
